Pumped-Storage Plant

Pumped-storage plants act as giant batteries. By moving water uphill during periods of low electricity demand and releasing it through turbines when demand peaks, they provide flexibility that is increasingly valuable in grids with high shares of variable renewables. They are among the most controllable assets in any power system — well suited as a stable power source for demanding industrial loads.
